SPAN 304: Intro to Hispanic Literature
Conducted in Spanish, the course introduces the principles of literary analysis, based on reading and discussion of Hispanic literary texts. Includes fiction, drama, essay, and poetry from Spain and Spanish America. (Offered every fourth semester.)
This course was completed on Fall 2013 and it meets the first and third MLO. This course contributes to the fulfillment of the MLO by helping me in understanding the ways of thinking and the art, history, and literature of Hispanic culture. Some work that I completed in this learning experience/course that illustrates my development in this area is working in groups, had quizzes, and a midterm. When we worked in groups, it was usually on a story or poem, trying to find the meaning behind it, symbolism, and other things. We also had quizzes on the stories that we had to read before class started. As for the midterm and final, it was a take-home exam. Some understandings that I gained from this course that is a significant contribution for my major is a better understanding of literature, the terms involved in it and also the authors behind the stories. An area that I wish to develop further is to better understand poems overall. I had some trouble with them compared to the stories that we had read. I intend to further explore this learning experience by applying what I learned in this class to my literature class next semester.
