WLC 400: Major Capstone
Students work with the instructor and WLC faculty advisors to research, synthesize, write and present their Capstone projects. Students will also assemble a Graduation Portfolio reflecting how each MLO was met. This course is required for all Japanese, Spanish and World Languages and Cultures majors. (Offered spring semester.) (Credit/ No Credit Available)
This course was completed on Spring 2015 and it meets the core requirement for the Spanish major. This course contributes to the fulfillment of the core requirement by helping me get ready to present my Capstone project (research questions, e-portfolio, choosing a topic, how to do a powerpoint, etc.). Some work that I completed in this learning experience/course that illustrates my development in this area are filling out a Capstone proposal, doing an abstract, a powerpoint based in our progress, an e-portfolio, a powerpoint in English and Spanish about one’s Capstone, and an essay about one’s Capstone topic. For the Capstone proposal, we had to turn it in and get it approved by one’s chosen advisor before we could start working on it. For the e-portfolio, it has to be completed by the end of the semester (one starts the e-portfolio in WLC 300). One also had to make two powerpoints to show one’s progress in the Capstone and also make a Spanish powerpoint (also an English version of it) related to one’s Capstone project to present during Language Assessment Day (Eng. version during Capstone Festival). Lastly, one has to do an essay of at least twenty pages about one’s Capstone topic. Some understandings that I gained from this course that is a significant contribution for my major is that I got a better understanding of how to do a powerpoint correctly (make it easier for the audience to read and stay focus) and where to obtain information for one’s Capstone topic. An area that I wish to develop further are to learn about other resources that can help one find information about their topic. I intend to further explore this learning experience by reading more articles that are related to my topic and to apply what I have learned about powerpoint presentations to future presentations that I might do.
