MLO 6: Information Technology Literacy
The student demonstrates an ability to use technology in support of his or her scholarly work, including gathering, organizing and analyzing sources and employing appropriate delivery techniques in both written and oral formats.
6.1. Students gain knowledge of appropriate research methodologies and are able to apply them in their studies.
6.2. Students use appropriate technologies in research and studies relative to the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures.
6.3. Students collect, manage and analyze current and emerging technology-based resources to develop and produce their scholarly work.
The courses that were completed for this MLO are WLC 300 and WLC 400. Meeting the outcomes of this MLO are supported by the course that I have completed. For WLC 300, it introduces students to the majors in Japanese Language and Culture, Spanish or World Language and Cultures. It also introduced to the students on how to use the CSUMB library website to find books, articles, obtain books/articles from other libraries, how to use a work cited effectively, etc. As for WLC 400, since it is mostly about one's capstone, it applies 6.1, which is to know the appropriate research methodologies and are able to apply them in their studies. An example of this is using scholarly books and/or articles to help one find information about their topic. There is also 6.2, which is to use appropriate technologies in research and studies relative to the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures. Using the databases located in the CSUMB library website would be a perfect example. Lastly, there is 6.3, which is to collect, manage and analyze current and emerging technology-based resources to develop and produce scholarly work. This would include the capstone. An area within the MLO that I have developed is how to look for scholarly information in this university. In the previous college where I attended, I knew where to look for the databases, so it was really helpful when I was taught where it was located in this university. As for the area that I wish to continue to develop after completing my degree would be in the area of technology-based resources. With today's technology, there is always new ways of finding resources (especially if they are scholarly). An area of the MLO that I found challenging was in the area of collecting and managing resources. I dealt with this challenge in many ways. One would be to narrow it down to just a couple of articles/books. Another way was to first be sure of what I was looking for (e.g. topic) so that I would have a good idea of what I was looking for. This MLO contributed to my personal intellectual growth by helping me improve my research methods. I used to use only books for my research/essays but now I use books and articles since I now know how to access them thru the CSUMB library.
