SPAN 301: Composition & Oral Practice
Continues to build proficiency as defined by the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines. Content-based instruction develops communicative language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through readings and discussions of authentic Hispanic cultural and literary texts. For students with two or more years of Spanish or an intermediate level of Spanish language proficiency. (Offered fall semester.)
This course was completed on Fall 2013 and it meets the first and second MLO. This course contributes to the fulfillment of the MLO by helping me better understand the structure of the Spanish language in compositions and conversation. Some work that I completed in this learning experience/course that illustrates my development in this area are a couple of essays, a quiz, and a debate that included a powerpoint. We had to write four essays on various topics based on different types of essays (descriptive, narrative, etc.). We also had a group debate on a controversial topic. I got to be in the debate team that was for immigration while there was another group that was against immigration. In the end, the group that I was in, won the debate. Some understandings that I gained from this course are that is a significant contribution for my major is that I got a better understanding of the accents, commas, and other punctuation and mechanics. Some areas that I wish to develop further are to expand my vocabulary so I can better express myself on essays, on debates, and on other situations in which it can be applied to. I intend to further explore this learning experience by going over what I did wrong on the essays and quiz and try to get a better understand on the things that I missed.
