SPAN 306: Culture and Civilization of Spanish Latin America
Taught in Spanish, presents an historical and cultural overview of Hispanic Latin America from its pre-Columbian origins to the present through works of literature, art, music, and videos. Taught in Spanish. (Offered every fourth semester.)
This course was completed on Fall 2013 and it meets the first and third MLO. This course contributes to the fulfillment of the MLO by giving the history, ways of thinking and behavioral practices of Latin America. Some work that I completed in this learning experience/course that illustrates my development in this area are some exams, extra credit, a presentation and an essay. This class was based on discussions, power points, and lectures. An extra credit that I did for the class was that I went with the RAÍCES Club to Carmel Mission and wrote around a page about my trip. The exams were based on the chapters of the assigned textbook and the lectures in class. As for the class presentation, I did it on the movie “Rojo Amanecer” and how it relates to the history of Mexico. Lastly, the essay that I did for this class was on the architecture of military buildings in Latin America. Some understandings that I gained from this course that is a significant contribution for my major is the history behind most of the Spanish speaking countries. An area that I wish to develop further is to know more about the history and culture of Mexico. I intend to further explore this learning experience by also focusing on other things that involve the history of other countries of Latin America and Spain.
